I just wanted to point out what I think is maybe the difference between these two rules. As you point out, Trader, these rules are similar but might not be the same. I could be crazy. I think "the player will only lose the original wager if the dealer has a blackjack" means, or could mean, that if you split 8,8 s 10 or Ace and bust on one of the two resulting hands, you will not get the bet on the busted hand back as that wager would, or could, be construed as a "second" wager on a second hand. You will only get your "original wager" back. Unlike a double, which is still the same hand. I'm not sure what would happen should you bust on both hands resulting from splitting 8,8 but it would seem the clause allows for at least one bet to be returned. Is that how the Boss game used to work? I guess you are saying Playtech has a rule that would actually "set aside" your busted bet and "<u>any<u> additional bet from doubling or splitting is returned to the player", i.e. the house would not collect its winning bet at the time it was won or, if it does, it returns twice your original wager when dealer has BJ. If the rules are the same, this seems a clearer way to state it. Both rules seem to allow for no benefit of winning both hands.
I think if one finds a game where "if the dealer has a 10 up the dealer will not check for blackjack but a guarantee is in place that the player will only lose the original wager if the dealer has a blackjack", the potential loss of losing a busted hand more than outweighs the gain from splittng and therefore it is proper to hit 8,8 s 10 or Ace in this case.
Years ago I played in Aruba that had a no-hole card game wherein you would only lose your original bet unless you busted on one or more of your split hands. (dealer natural takes busts). If you busted on one or both hands resulting from splitting 8,8 s A or 10, the house kept the winnings from those hands. I hope I did the right thing in not splitting my 8,8's s A or 10 in this game. Did I?
I don't know how these rules actually work in Playtech or Boss games because, sssssshhhhhh, don't tell anyone, I play mostly RTG and Micro BJ.
However the heck these games work and whatever the heck these rules mean, assuming a no-hole card game wherein one <U>will<u> lose one bet from a busted hand due to splitting, what is the correct BS then for 8,8?
