Topic: Playtech Vide Poker: 0.6% likely to be randomly dealt Forum: Winner Online

If the first deal is unfair or non-random (the latter is probably a better word for it), maybe it's just badly programmed. Maybe the RNG has limited 'seed' alues for the dealt hand or the programmers tried to be clever and more efficient and deal the whole hand from a single RNG alue.

If a single random number is used to deal the cards, then it's unlikely to cover all the combinations of possible dealt cards. The random number would have to have a huge range of over 300 million (52x51x50x49x48) to do that. They might have used a smaller random number range and multiplied the result to cover broadly the whole range but it would miss out a lot of combinations.

It could explain why rare events are skewed in the distribution. It would be a mistake for Playtech to program it like this but maybe they thought it was ok. It could just have likely increased the number of these rare combinations (you would need to test it to see how it turned out because it wouldn't be obvious). It's just not random this way because some combinations are excluded.

A dealt straight flush occurs ery rarely (once in many tens of thousands of hands chance) and the random number range is unlikely to be many times greater than this chance so the distribution of these rare events would likely be ery skewed! The RNG can only generate a pseudo random number that is only random-looking to a certain degree. The range of the pseudo random number (usually ery large) needs to be many times greater than the chance of the event for it to be certain to look random to that degree.

It should be fine if a random number was used for each card because there would only be 52 or less comibinations and the RNG range would probably be over a thousand times greater. Another problem though could be that they have limited 'seed' alues for the RNG for the dealt hand even if separate random numbers were used for each card.

Also, I don't understand why they would do this deliberately as I don't think it has ery much effect overall.

More data is needed to make sure this result is not just through luck.
