As has been said here many times before by diverse posters: if we could only warn players before they get online, or even immediately thereafter of the absolute necessity of researching before rocketing over to extensively advertised or big bonusing sites and plunking their money down!

However, there is now some statistical information available on the use of message boards like WOL following the Nottingham Trent University study of 11 000 online gamblers last year. If memory serves me well, I think it found that the numbers of players already online that use message boards was significantly higher than conventional wisdom had placed it.

I seem to recall it was as high as 40 percent of respondents across 96 countries.
