thanks for the feedback and constructive criticism. it is true that the foot rule is out of place, and can also be seen as a 'wussy rule' but i liked the idea of calling a bad hand a 'foot' so i guess thats why i put it there. Either way, i don't think it makes a great difference but in order to make the game 'look better' i think it is appropiate to leave it out.
Your first ariation of insurance: the one in which you try to get your expected point total would creat a totally different game. The emphasis of the game its always been to get the fewest amount of points , and not to capture certain cards. It could be a nice different game, as you said more like oh hell. but in that case, i think the point cards could be changed, and put into more strategic positions (having high hearts could give you an easy advantage).
Your second ariation for insurance sounds a lot more interesting. In the sense that i still havent come up with a good system of how to make bidding. the use of papers does seem quite out of place. another problem would be that once you know who got insurance (in your ariation) , the other players would start aiming for anyone but him, as they would know he has got some points in the bag already.
The bit with the diamonds counting as plus points is really interesting. I was thinkin of actually using chips in a way , and that you could only keep the chips for so many rounds. Using the chips actually opens the door to many other ariations, of which im gonna spend some thought over the next few days. if i come up with something good, i'll surely want your opinion of it.
btw, im soon gonna try your ambition game which sounds ery innovative.
