I've been thinking a bit about this myself lately - provided you were properly bankrolled for the level you're starting at, while it goes against conventional bankroll management theory I don't think there could be any real problem with this strategy if you stick to it completely (ie: immediately dropping down a level if you don't cash).
Yes, you'll be playing in games that you're not properly bankrolled for if you use conventional bankroll management wisdom. But conventional bankroll management wisdom assumes you'll be staying at that level, and that isn't the case here: either you're finishing in the money and turning a profit, or you're dropping back down a level right away.
The catch in your situation, of course, is that you're not properly bankrolled for the level you're starting at. But then $3 isn't a proper bankroll for any level, so it's probably a moot point.
So... good luck I guess! I'd sure be keen to hear how you progress on this.
