the biggest difference between live and online is not being able to see the people you play with
when you're playing online, you must observe betting patterns and the time it takes for them to bet in order to read a player
when you're live, sometimes people give physical tells about their hands that you can use to analyze their hands with or analyze their style of play

everybody has their preferences but i personally think live poker is the "true" poker saying as how thats how it started anyways

try both and decide for yourself but i say that live is much more social, fun, and exciting
