If it makes you feel any better (it won't), in about 40K hands at Cake I've only picked up 7 gold cards total.
They definitely drop A LOT more often when they first release a new series, or the beginning of the month.
Pretty sure I got my first 2 gold cards at Cake when I first started playing there (the first week in November). Then I picked up 2 of the other 3 on the first day or two of December, a couple more the beginning of January.
Surprise surprise, it's the first of the month on their servers and I picked up a ton today.
Also, somewhere on their site it tells you that the cards will drop more often at higher limits. Their chance to be distributed is based off the rake taken from the table, so a table that's getting raked $3 every hand will produce gold cards 20x as fast as a table getting raked $0.25.
