I still have a hard time not calling with KQo from early position, but by following Matt's charts, I came to realize that some hands are not as good as I thought (KJ, e.g.); and I also learned to pay more attention to position.
Yes, I should have been able to pick that up anyway, but by forcing myself to follow his charts strictly for a while, it finally got ingrained in my head.
Although you could learn that from other charts, Matt's are far, far more detailed than any others I've ever seen -- they not only take into account position, like most charts, they also take into account whether the pot has been raised or not, and they also take into account how many callers are in front of you.

As for grinding it out at micro limits. It's not just a matter of learning how to play well and to have patience. I, for one, had to learn to be comfortable with variance. That was my biggest stumbling block. It took me a long time to really get it through my head that I could expect to lose 10-20 BBs somewhat often on a given night...but that I could win 15-30BBs more often. |
