Quote: First, we must define the terms. Pineapple, is a straight-high game, with a discard BEFORE the flop. Crazy pineapple, is high-low, with a discard AFTER the flop.
It's good that you mentioned the fact that discards take place, AFTER the betting. Up in Alaska, they RUINED the game, by making the players discard BEFORE any betting whatsoever. This was, of course a JOKE, as the betting action and number of players, are what guides the discard decision. Especially in CRAZY pineapple, where one often has a much more difficult "either or" choice, as you get the see the flop before discarding. In Pinapple, there are also decisions to be made, based on the number of players and the betting action, but not as often, or as INFORMED.
Well, there is a complete difference in starting hands, for the two games. First off, hands that are three-sequential, middle cards, such as 789, 678, even 8910, are COMPLETLY, and utterly UNPLAYABLE, in CRAZY, but make pretty decent hands, in REGULAR. And good Ace low hand, such as A 2 3 suited, has very limited value, in Pineapple, but is strong in CRAZY.
AA hands, are much stronger in Crazy, as they may allow you to "escape" with a low, when the aces are beaten.
(Note: this is NOT going to transform into a complete lesson on how to play the game, but that IS available . . . . .on a student basis)
By the way . . . . . . . REady? Remember this:
THERE ARE NO, REPEAT, NO SUPERPOWERFUL STARTING HANDS, IN EITHER GAME!! Nothing that you would want to cap with, NOTHING. Do you hear me,? GOOD! then remember that.
Even AA2 suited, is NO powerhouse, WHATSOEVER. The need to discard, destroys most of the power of any hand.
What is the best starting hand for crazy? Well, some things have to be saved.
Just remember, there are NO superpowerful hands.
A few samples, of how to discard:
KKA suited, betting is capped, with 7 players.
Well, there is a good chance that someone has aces, and also that the KK will lose, even if no one does.
Sure, a SET of kings may be good, but then again, can be drawn out on.
Since the odds of flopping a flush or flush draw, are not that higher than flopping a set
11% vrs 12.5%) and the fact that the KK has almost no chance to win, without setting, we would go with the ace king suited here.
The discard rules, for crazy, are just too complicated, to list here, even if I did not have a lessons business.
suffice it to say, that the more players in the pot, the more prone you are to go for nut low, rather than keep aces. |
