This is kind of a hijack, but can someone give me their take on this.
You have Axs on the button. The flop comes and completes the nut flush for you. Everyone checks to you.
What to do? Bet and everyone's likely to fold and you pick up the preflop bets. Or would you check and then hope for a non-scary scare card to get someone else betting?
How would you approach this differently depending on position and pot size?
(ps if the flop is suited and I don't have the same suit and I'm last to act, I'd bet the bluff - if this right or wrong?)
This could be played many different ways - mainly dependent on preflop bets, position, stakes involved, and the other players' behaviors.
I have probably made more $ from slowplaying than anything else, but again that can be dependent to many other things.
If I'm on the button, and no one else has bet, then I would bet the minimum to at least get a few more $ in the pot. Playing 4th and 5th street, I'm mainly worried about someone that hit a set on the flop and then getting a pair on the board for a full house. In early position on the flop, I might just check or again bet small depending on how many players are still in it.
I find that if you get a caller for your small bets on the flop, they're very likely to stay in the hand for a showdown.
I try to get as many chips as possible instead of blowing everyone else out with a large bet. You mention a "non-scary card" for people to bet... Does anything really scare you on 4th street when you have the nut flush after the flop? Unless 4th or 5th street pairs the board or there's the small chance of a straight flush, nothing would really scare me. I say this because I want a big card on 4th street to make a big pair for someone.
When the player with AK/AQ/AJ (or something similar) makes a big pair after seeing everyone check, they think they're in control.
Its tough to analyze those hands without knowing all of the circumstances.
I find that a full house or 4 of a kind or much easier to win more BB. Low quads like 2-4 or a dream hand to me. Especially when it makes someone else a full house.
A full house when hit from the big blind, while holding trash, because everyone else limps is great as well. No one ever suspects it. |
