Forum: Bonus Whores | First 4 months of my poker "career", I played nothing but NL SNGs, mostly $5 and $10. Hovered around breakeven for the most part, mostly due to luck since I had no real clue how to play. (Although after every game I spent hours reviewing what I had done and reading articles and trying to get better.)
After a nasty $100 downswing playing $10+1 SNGs, I said "f this" and re-applied my thinking to Limit Hold'em. Read several books (incl. Lee Jone's), and pretty much came out of the starting gates winning at the micro-limit tables at PokerStars.
Quite honestly, I have been a fairly consistent winner since that time, as I devoted myself to learning the game. I'm a voracious reader, and thought/think about the game constantly, trying to improve myself. I've certainly experienced downswings - as ALL poker players, even the good ones - but always managed to weather the temporary storm (variance) and kept going. |
