I can vouch for the problems of reading SSHE first. It was the first book I read after I had been playing for 2 months and my BB/100 dropped like a rock even compared to my early clueless days.

Recently reread it and HEFAP after another 15k hands or so and found them invaluable.

Someone said that Lee Jones book is "find any excuse to fold" and SSHE is "find any excuse to call or raise". Not entirely correct of course, but if you don't understand exactly when/why Miller is advocating a raise with a flush draw as opposed to a call or with middle pair as opposed to a fold etc you will get lost at the table and start making mistakes.

I also think that the loose-average games SSHE was written for are becoming harder to find (online - still there B&M) and it seems that HEFAP and Ciaffione's book are better for say, your now typical PR or UB or ABS 3/6 game.
