GoldBoar - you are correct that a check raise will often lead bad players to make poor calls on the flop. As I noted, such a check-raise will often raise your pot equity at the end of betting on the flop.

However, the decision to check-raise the flop is more than a one-street decision. You often are going to find yourself firing a couple more big bets into the pot from the worst possition with a marginal hand. For the flop check-raise to be right, your postflop skills need to be quite good compared to the table to compensate for the damage done by being out of posstion.

If you aren't sure of your skill advantage, it might be best to pass-up the slightly +EV check-raise to avoid the dangerous decisions to be made on the next two betting rounds.
