Totally true. I was addressing more the people who have been bonus whoring forever and even though they have played tens of thousands of hands they are still grinding low limits and are barely better than break even. I don't get it at all. After that many hands if your skill hasn't improved then maybe this isn't for you.

Since you seem to be (intentionally or not) describing me, I will address this.

I have been bonus whoring "forever," meaning since late 2003. I am still playing ("grinding") what you would consider "low limits" but have been moving up in levels slowly, as I feel comfortable, first from 1/2 to .10/.25 NL, and now to the .25/.50 NL at Absolute.

I think it is wrong to assume that because a person chooses to play a lower level than what you would consider mid- or high- limit games, that their skill level is less than yours. A friend of mine has over 6000 hands on me in his PT database, and has me rated as a "Money Bag," or a TAA. I could play at a higher level, but don't because (1) I don't see a need to; and (2) my concern over losing large pots might prevent me from playing my "A" game at those levels.

I am risk-averse. I know that risk is inherent in poker, and one risk that I have is that I can't stand to lose. Fucking hate it. Losing puts me on tilt, although I have been learning to control this tendency. I recognize this as a weakness in my game, and I am slowly addressing it. I deal much better with bad beats today than I did 6 months ago.

That being said, I try to find the "sweet spot" between risk and bonus clearing. For me right now, it is the .25/.50 NL games at Absolute. I can clear a bonus, earn a decent amount of rakeback, and not risk losing over $100 in a single bad beat. Poker Tracker shows that I am beating this game. I could probably beat a bigger game, and someday may give it a shot, but not until I feel comfortable with the risk.

My goal is not to be at the final table of the WSOP. My goal is to make money at this. Others can have the glory. If you, JP, or one of the other "studs" ever make a final table, you can bet I will be there in your cheering section. I just don't expect to be there myself.

I like you, Jim, but sometimes you talk out of your ass. This is one of those times.
