Same thing happened to me on 12/1. Some guy got access to my PokerStars account and logged in. I had a $600 balance. Somehow they had access to my Neteller secure id as well and made a $600 deposit and proceeded to lose all $1200 within an hour. From there, they created a Full Tilt poker account, withdrew $1000 from my Neteller and proceeded to lose $800 in that account until I caught them and FullTilt froze that account. This all happened within a span of 3 hours. Good thing I wasn't at work that day and I was able to check my Neteller account and see some withdrawals that I did not do. Who knows how much more they would've taken out?

Both Stars and Full Tilt told me that it was a "joy rider" rather than chip dumping, so I'm shit out of luck trying to get my money back. Pretty much they both told me.. "Sorry, but we can't do anything. Be more careful with your passwords next time." And then FullTilt told me the good news. If I created a new account, they could transfer over the $200 that they recovered for me. Yipee! I really don't know how this happened, as I am extremely careful about viruses and what not and I feel like I have a good grasp on the security of my computer (I was a computer science major).

This experience has made me extremely skeptical on the security of online poker and the security of my money in cyberspace somewhere. At least if this happens to my bank account or credit card, there would be a more in depth investigation, more repercussions for the frauder, and more chance of me getting my money back. I've decided to withdraw the rest of what is in my Neteller account and other poker sites and take a break from poker for the time being until I feel the itch to come back. But I do not think I will have more than a couple grand out there at any one time now. It's just not safe. It was an expensive, but I guess relatively cheap lesson (compared to how much I could have lost).
